PRESTIGE STONE® SPLIT FACE MASONRY UNITS

PART 1 – GENERAL

SUBMITTAL

A. Submit samples in small-scale form showing the full range of colors and textures available for each exposed masonry unit required.

B. Submit a full size sample of product selected.

C. Submit product literature, certifications, and material test reports by a qualified independent testing facility.


QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Single source Responsibility: Obtain exposed masonry units of uniform texture and color from one manufacturer.

B. Mock Up Panel: Prior to installing unit masonry, construct sample wall panels to verify selections made under
sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects of materials and execution.


DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. PRESTIGE STONE® Split Face units shall be delivered on a wooden pallet, labeled, and shall be covered with
a 4-mil plastic cover with shrink wrap applied.

B. The contractor shall be responsible for keeping all units undamaged and covered during construction.

C. Units need to be handled carefully as to avoid breakage or chipage.


PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Cover walls with a waterproof sheeting at the end of each day’s work.

B. Protect base of walls from rain splashed mud and/or splashed mortar by coverings spread on ground.


PART 2-PRODUCTS

SPLIT FACE MASONRY UNITS

A. All concrete masonry units shall be manufactured by Johnson Concrete Company, 220 Wilmuth Avenue,
Raeford, NC 28376, 800 642 2254

B. All units to conform to ASTM-C90 and tested in accordance with ASTM C 140

C. Weight Classification: Normal Weight

D. Net area compressive strength: 2700 psi

E. Architectural Units shall be manufactured in one continuous run to achieve color consistency.

F. Sizes and Shapes: Manufacturers standard nominal sizes.

G. All units will be manufactured to include “Dry Block®” or Rain Block integral water repellant in accordance with ASTM E 514 or as required by drawings.

H. All units shall be manufactured with a chamfered edge to insure a straight break on the face shell of the unit


PART 3-EXECUTION

INSTALLATION

A. Mix architectural masonry units from several pallets as they are installed as to produce a consistent color and
texture.

B. Cut masonry units with a motor driven saw to provide clean, sharp, and unchipped edges.

C. Add “Dry Block®” mortar additive to mortar at manufacturers recommended ratio.


LAYING MASONRY WALLS

A. Do not lay any damaged or defective material.

B. Lay walls to comply with specified construction tolerances, with courses accurately spaced and coordinated with
other construction.


INSPECTION

A. The installed architectural units shall be viewed from a distance of 20 feet and should be free of cracks, chips,
and other imperfections that would detract from the overall appearance of the finished wall.


CLEANING

A. In progress cleaning: Using a dry brush to remove access or dripped mortar from the face of the material.

B. Final Clean Down: Use a Detergent Masonry Cleaner specifically design for Decorative Concrete Masonry such
as ProSoCo (Custom Masonry Cleaner). Do not use Acid or abrasives..
